Information for Parents

Weatherfield School is in Dunstable.  There are 96 pupils, aged 7 to 16, in the school at present.  All pupils attending the school have a statement of special educational needs.

School Day

Our school day starts at 9.10 a.m.  Most pupils in key stages 2 and 3 are transported to school.  Some pupils in key stage 4 have bus passes and travel on public transport r walk to school.

We have three lessons in the morning and three in the afternoon.  Key stage 2 have an hour for lunch and key stage 4 have
45 minutes.  School ends at 3.20 p.m. when students board the coaches for home.

School Lunches

School lunches are available at a cost of £1.80p per day.  They are cooked on the premises.

If your child would like a school meal once or twice a week this is fine

as long as 1 or 2 days prior warning has been given to the kitchen staff.

The kitchen has just been taken over by a company called Eden Food Services.

Uniform

Students wear school uniform - grey, black or navy blue skirts, trousers and jumpers with blue or white shirts.  Shoes should have sensible heels. Sweat shirts and polo shirts with the school logo are available through the school (see the Uniform Page).  For P.E. white tee shirts and black or white shorts and plimsols.

 

Rules

We try not to have too many rules, but some are needed:

  • Chewing gum is not allowed.

  • Toys should not be brought into school.

  • Jeans and trainers are not allowed, except for games and rural studies.

  • Mobile phones may only be brought to school by pupils who walk to school - they must be handed into the office on arrival and collected at the end of the day.

  • Only stud earrings are allowed and these should be removed or covered in P.E. lessons for safety reasons

  • All pupils are expected to respect others, their property and the environment.

The school has an anti-bullying policy which is rigorously enforced.

 

Contact With Parents

There are termly meetings for parents to meet teachers.
Parents are encouraged to contact the school if they have any concerns and the school will do likewise.
All pupils have a statement and this is reviewed at an annual meeting with parents.
There is an annual report to parents at the end of the summer term.
There is a Friends of Weatherfield Association which meets for social and fund raising events.

 

Facilities

The school is proud of its facilities.
The grounds are a constant source of pleasure for all, and pupils enjoy working and learning in them (see Farm and Grounds page).

We have a purpose built science room for key stages 3 and 4.
All pupils use the facilities of the ICT room as well as having computers in their classrooms (see ICT page).
There are practical work areas for art, food and textiles and design technology.
