Learning Pathway

Lower School

‘Ready for Independence

Within the Lower School, pupils will continue to appreciate different styles of art and be encouraged to give an opinion, showing an understanding of others opinions and ideas.

Pupils will develop their practical skills by completing activities set to a topic, following a three-year rolling program.  Likewise, they will have opportunities to use a range of materials creatively to design and make products. Developing their skills to use drawing, painting and sculpture to share their ideas and imagination.

Pupils will have opportunities to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. Pupils' work will be celebrated around the school environment.

Key Stage 4

‘Ready for my Future’

Art within KS4 is planned and focused on students achieving AQA accreditations and a newly introduced GCSE. They will be continuing and improving on set skills acquired on their journey through the school. Students will be encouraged, where possible, to be independent with their decision-making.

Students will be empowered to take ownership of their projects and research different methods, approaches, describing and analysing the choices they have made. They will acquire specific skills within  the courses they are following, understanding the importance of learning about the work of others. Mastering skills and developing these to suit the student's own work.

There will be oppurtunity to go on trips and to work with visiting artists.

Artwork will be celebrated around the school environment. There will also be opportunities to enter local and national art competitions.

Key Stage 5

‘Ready for Work’

Although students in KS5 do not access Art within their timetable, they are encouraged to continue to be creative within their studies. Skills acquired during their art lessons will be transferred cross-curricular. Where studentsare accessing careers advice, and where art and creativity are a skill and passion, opportunities will be researched and explored within further education.

Students will continue to develop and imaginatively extend ideas from starting points throughout the curriculum. They will use these transferable skills to be creative within their focused work and decision-making.

As with all Key stages, their work will be celebrated and displayed within the school environment.
