Reading Plus is an online reading programme used by some of our students to build fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. If your child has Reading Plus scores in their report, these will show their current level in three areas: comprehension, vocabulary and overall reading proficiency.

• Comprehension — how well your child understands what they read, including retrieving information, making inferences and understanding meaning.

• Vocabulary — how well your child understands the words they meet in the texts.

• Proficiency — an overall score combining comprehension, vocabulary and reading fluency to show their general reading level.​

Reading Plus uses a numbered scale (e.g., 1.5, 2.0, 2.5). These numbers show the level of text complexity your child can currently read with success. The programme starts children at a level where they can feel confident and then moves them up as they make progress.

A lower starting score does not mean your child is behind - it simply helps the programme personalise their lessons so they can build skills step by step.

If your child does not have Reading Plus scores, it simply means they do not currently use the programme.

Reading Plus uses an American grade-level scale, although students access an English version. The equivalents shown above are approximate UK year-group comparisons and are intended to help parents understand the score. The assessment point reflects a pupil’s reading proficiency and should be viewed alongside classroom assessment and progress over time.​
